French migrants tear gassed by police during a tense confrontation at a crowded border crossing, where officers used tear gas to disperse a large group of people attempting to move through the area. The incident unfolded amid growing pressure at the frontier, with long queues, confusion over documentation, and heightened security checks contributing to an already volatile atmosphere. Witnesses reported scenes of panic as families, including children and elderly individuals, tried to escape the gas, some seeking shelter behind vehicles or makeshift barriers while others were treated on-site for breathing difficulties and eye irritation. Humanitarian organizations raised concerns about the proportionality of the police response and the overall treatment of migrants in the region, calling for independent investigations, clearer protocols for crowd management, and greater respect for basic human rights and dignity in all border control operations.
